Here’s the details from @Mochamomma, a high school vice principal in Springfield. Can you help?

Problem: our high school girls are only allowed to carry small purses to school (it’s a safety issue) and many girls have already purchased purses. Do I need to mention The Economy? Do I need to mention the poverty rate in my school?

Solution: have friends and family help donate small purses (women almost ALWAYS have more than one purse!), sell them for the bargain basement price of $5, and donate that money to the school for the students. My friends have been gracious enough to clean out their closets, but I know a lot more people find this an easy project in which to get involved.

Purses should be no larger than 8.5 x 11 so measuring with a piece of paper should be easy to use for measurement. They can be sent to me at:

One of the main reasons I moved out of my mom’s house was so that I could name my own pets. While I realize that sounds a bit ridiculous, you have to realize I’m a huge animal person and was raised by a mom who was very diplomatic. Any time we’d get a new pet, my brother and I were each to write down a name for the pet and put it in a hat.

We had a rabbit named Bun-bun, a guinea pig named Pig and two birds: Tweet and Tweet-tweet.

Guess whose names those were? Certainly not mine. I wanted a rabbit named Nibbles, a guinea pig named Voltron (shut up, that’s still better than Pig) and two birds: Samson and Delilah.

Well today, our new manager at work started. She brought a goldfish with her and sent out an email letting us know we were going to name him. Just write down your name on a paper and leave it in the cup beside his bowl.

I rolled my eyes because I knew my name wouldn’t get picked. When it was just two names in a hat, mine never got picked. Forget getting picked when there were a dozen names for her to choose from. So I wrote down the first name that popped in my head and threw it in.

Imagine my surprise when my fish name was drawn - it was like that whole frustrating part of my childhood had been healed. Life or God had smiled upon me and wanted my little 6 year old self to get some closure for once for ever having to utter the name Bun-bun.

Our office’s new goldfish was named Jean-Paul Sartre.

But then there was just utter silence until the jowley lady said “Who the hell is Jean-Paul Sartre. That’s a dumb name for a fish.” And everyone else agreed.

That is not a dumb name for a fish. That’s a perfectly fine fish name. The damn thing has to swim around in a tiny bowl for the rest of its life, swimming in its own poop. At least now he has a respectable name.

Nobody liked his name. So they had a re-draw. And now, now poor Little Sartre is to forever be known as Nemo. Quite possibly the most predictable name in the world for an animal with the most predictable daily life. Poor thing.

In hindsight, I should have written down something else. Like Hugh Jackman. That’s about the dumbest name for a goldfish I can think of. Those bitches probably would have gotten their jubblies off on having a fish named Hugh Jackman.

So I’m right back where I started - yet another pet with a horrible, horrible name.
